Sometimes a getaway is just that ... a getaway from the every day. And for some crazy fans, it can mean following your team to the big event, or heading to an exotic locale to see your favourite sport.
Over the past number of years, sports tourism has been on the rise, and people trek all over the globe for a chance to see the winning goal or putt or touchdown live and in person.
Whether booking your own or going through a travel agent, there are plenty of opportunities to incorporate a love for sports into an unforgettable play-cation.
Portage la Prarie travel agent Carey Duncan at Travel Quest says people have been inquiring about all sorts of sporty vacations, ranging from long-weekend trips to catch a couple NHL hockey games, to ski vacations to summer golf getaways.
"It really depends on where your interests lie," she said. "There's always people who want to go see the Grey Cup, or to the national rodeo finals in the fall. We've had some people go to the Super Bowl. Other people have gone to see the Canadian Figure Skating Championships."
