Manitoba Water Stewardship issued a flood watch for all of southern Manitoba Friday night due to potential heavy rains this weekend.

The area south of Duck Mountain and Bissett is under watch.

Thunderstorms with intense rain are possible this weekend. Any rain would fall on already saturated ground, possibly resulting in heavy run-off and flash flooding.

Environment Canada indicates that rainfall of 25 to 50 is possible on Saturday in western Manitoba and Saturday to Sunday in central and eastern Manitoba.

hit by recent storms and for larger rivers to rise significantly next week.

Predicted crests of the Assiniboine River from Shellmouth to Portage la Prairie are unchanged and flooding of lower portions of the valley next week is likely, said Manitoba Water Stewardship.

The Portage Diversion continues to be operated to reduce levels in Winnipeg, which have risen above 3.4 metres.
