Kicking off a tough stretch of their Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League schedule, the Central Plains Capitals came through with a pair of great efforts over the weekend.
The Capitals took three out of a possible four points playing the league's two divisional leaders, topping the Pembina Valley Hawks 4-2 at Centennial Arena on Saturday before losing 2-1 in a shootout against the Winnipeg Wild on Sunday in Ste. Aldophe.
"It was a fantastic weekend," Capitals' head coach Blaine Boyle said Sunday. "Three points against the top two teams in the league — I'm really proud of the guys. They played exceptional all weekend."
Goaltender Bryan Tait shined in both contests, making 28 saves for the victory on Saturday, and turning aside another 40 through 65 minutes of work on Sunday.
